I know I have been a bit coy here on the Weather Report about what exactly is going on with my life, but it’s been going. When I decided to retire from the practice of law, I also decided that I was finally ready to move back home to New Hampshire. I applied for a job at the insurance company in Keene where I had worked before law school and, before I had time to really get worried about how the interviews had gone, was offered the job. When I look back at it now, I realize it was probably pretty stupid of me to give my notice before I had a new job set up, but fortunately it worked out and, since the new gig doesn’t start until June 11th, I’ve had time off to relax and get my life in order.
Part of life ordering involves finding a place to live. My dad finally sold the condo in Boston in April so he has the money to reinvest in a place for me to live. So for the past few weeks we’ve been house hunting. My mom has a great realtor she’s worked with in the past (if you’re ever looking for help with real estate in the Monadnock Region let me know and I’ll send you his name). We spent a few days out on the road with him looking at houses in the towns surrounding Keene (I refuse to pay Keene property taxes). We’d seen some nice things, but nothing that was just right, in the Goldilocks sense of just right.
This past Friday my dad was able to come down and spend a day on the hunt with us. Our first appointment was at a lovely 1870s house in the perfect location. Unfortunately, the selling agent had set up the appointment at the wrong place and the tenant there would not let us in. We went on with the rest of our day and were then able to get back to the place later in the afternoon. We all hoped the place would be as nice inside as it was outside. As it turns out, it is the perfect little house for me and the kitties. The only thing it is lacking is a garage, but there is room enough to put one in later. Mom, Dad, and I all loved the place.
Yesterday I met with our realtor and put in an offer on the place. A couple hours later we got a counter offer. I countered back this morning, and within minutes the seller accepted! We had expected the process to drag out for at least a few days and weren’t sure the seller would be willing to come down to what we are willing to pay. It’s been like the best episode of House Hunters ever.
Yesterday when we finished putting together the offer, the realtor asked me if I was excited. I said there’s no point in getting excited until I know it’s going to happen. So I was pretty calm. But now I am excited. The seller is prepared to close early next month so I should definitely be settled in my new home by the end of June. I’ll have a guest bedroom so visitors are welcome. If you mention that you heard about my new house on the Foo Weather Report I’ll put chocolates on the pillow for you.

It’s ADORABLE!!! I’m so happy for you, even if it means one less local person playing Nano with us in Leominster next fall…. *sniff*

I’ll still be near enough that I think I can make it down for a meeting or two. You guys were a lot of fun to write with last year, and I look forward to doing it again this year!

I hope we get over there to collect our chocolates one of these days! Congrats on the new place, it looks idyllic!

Can I get my chocolate in advance? I’d like one of those little miniature Mr. Goodbars you get in the Hershey’s bag. Or two.
(What town are you moving to? That house looks like one in the Brookline NH area.)
